Sitting on the backroad between Jesús and Santa Eulalia, Can Furnet has long held its place as one of Ibiza’s most exclusive enclaves. Located within its lush forested landscape sits Can Rota. This stunning double-storey villa is not Blakstad’s first project within the estate but stands as a shining example of the company’s dedication to fusing traditional Ibicenco design with a refined modern aesthetic. While the area is known for its sloping plots, this particular property benefits from a relatively flat terrain, allowing for a seamless and cohesive design.
Made up of a six-bedroom main house and a three-bedroom annexe, Can Rota blends familial warmth with a musician’s paradise. A grand piano takes centre stage in one of the main living spaces, and there’s a dedicated entertainment zone, discotheque and fully equipped sound studio. Throughout the year, musicians and artists of all stripes stop by to record, unwind and immerse themselves in the bright airy spaces that provide inspiration and relaxation.
True to Blakstad’s signature style, the villa showcases many of the firm’s timeless motifs: smooth whitewashed walls, artfully crafted niche shelving, skylights and lanterns and exposed wooden beams. However, there are a few unique touches that set this home apart. In some rooms, the custom cabinetry has been softened with rounded corners, while in others the beams have been left pale and raw, bringing the natural colour palette of the outdoors inside.
Outside, gardens cascade over whitewashed flower beds overflowing with voluptuous ground covers, wild grasses, fragrant shrubs and delicate blooms. Mature palm, pine and olive trees cast soft dappled shadows, creating shaded nooks ideal for quiet contemplation or social gatherings. The pool’s natural form echoes the fluidity of the surrounding landscape, and in the courtyard, a unique water feature pays homage to a spiritual symbol: a cross-shaped fountain representing the four rivers of Eden – the Pishon, Gihon, Tigris and Euphrates. This meaningful element first appeared in the home of Blakstad founder Rolph Blakstad and has since become an emblematic touch in some of the studio’s more contemporary designs.
Can Rota encapsulates Blakstad’s philosophy of honouring Ibiza’s architectural heritage while embracing the needs of modern family life. It’s a place where form and function converge with creativity and the natural beauty of Ibiza, delivering an atmosphere that is both inspiring and deeply grounding.
