Sunset views often inform the architecture on the west coast of Ibiza and Can Roig was no different, with an emphasis on maximising sunlight throughout the winter. Light and shadow feature heavily in the design, with skylights of all sizes positioned to bring natural brightness into the spaces.

The interiors showcase the owner’s personality, taking out the expected and replac-ing it with colour, texture and a smidgeon of eccentricity.

Travertine floors and ano-dised aluminium window frames create a contemporary ambience while an eclectic collection of art and furniture coupled with unique fixtures individualises the rooms.

The curving staircase is of particular note – its seashell arcs adding an organic ten-or to the right angles of the architecture and recalling the nearby waters of Cala Tarida. This new build was situated in an overgrown pine forest that had strangled the ancient terraces and local flora.

A reclamation of the farmland followed the completion of the house, bringing the surrounding countryside back to its natural state and protecting it from the rapacity of the pine.
